The Dutch national team has started its preparations for the 2010 season on Wednesday. Twice a week the squad will practice together. The sessions are currently held by Robert Eenhoorn, Brian Farley and Wim Martinus since the Dutch Baseball and Softball Federation (KNBSB) hasn’t found a new head coach yet. However a signing could be imminent as technical director Eenhoorn is already in contract talks with an American candidate according to the report by Rogier van Zon on Honkbalsite.com. Two months ago the KNBSB had announced that Rod Delmonico isn’t coming back for a second season. The Netherlands will take part in two Major tournaments this summer, the Haarlem Baseball Week and the European Championship in Germany.
Starting next week eleven current and former players will receive special training to become future coaches for top clubs and perhaps even national teams. These sessions will be certified by the National Olympic Committee in the Netherlands. Dave Draijer, Michael Duursma, Evert-Jan ‘t Hoen, Percy Isenia, Eelco Jansen, Sidney de Jong, Ferenc Jongejan, Michiel van Kampen, Lars Koehorst, Ralph Milliard and Tjerk Smeets will be on hand.
