Germany’s national team catcher Kai Gronauer (Double A, New York Mets) hasn’t returned yet from Panama. After playing the IBAF Baseball World Cup in October, the backstop stayed to play for Diablos Rojos in the Panamanian Winter League. The pro league is played with four teams in the four improved stadiums in Panama City, Santiago, Chitre and Aguadulce.
Gronauer has appeared in 11 games so far. He is batted .219 (OBP .289/SLG .375) with one homerun and two doubles. His team, based out of Panama City, isn’t doing that good right now. They are ranked fourth with a 5-9 record, trailing Roneros de Chitre, Diablicos de Azuero and Caballos de Cocle. Visit www.probeispanama.com to follow the league.
