The three European national teams competing at the U23 WBSC World Cup in Mexico will begin play in the Placement Round on Wednesday, Sep. 29, with Germany and the Netherlands facing off in the first match of the tournament’s second phase.
The Czech Republic begins the Placement Round against Nicaragua.
Germany, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic all recorded one victory in group play, but a 1-4 record was not enough for any of the three national teams to secure qualification to the Super Round.
In Group A, Germany defeated the Czech Republic, 6-4 (box score), on Day Three of the tournament, while the Czech Republic secured a victory over the host and defending champion Mexico on the first day of play but then lost four in a row, including the aforementioned loss to Germany, to miss out on qualification.
In Group B, the Netherlands’ lone victory came against Super Round-qualifier Panama, 4-1 (box score).
