CB Sant Boi has won the Spanish Baseball Championship. They picked up the decisive victory on Saturday evening when they beat the FC Barcelona 5-1 in front of 900 people in Montjuic. It is their first title since 2003. Barcelona needed to win both games against Sant Boi this weekend to win the championship.
Sant Boi didn’t waste any time in game one of the two-game series, as they took a fast 4-0 lead through three innings. Marc Carrillo put them up in front with a RBI single in the first. Three more runs got on the board in the third, two on a single by William Domero. A RBI single by Jose Estebin Cruz in the fifth made it 5-0. The FC Barcelona couldn’t initiate a comeback only was able to avoid the sweep, when Jorge Miqueleiz scored in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out RBI single by Emmanuel Febles. During the same play Sergio Roman was thrown out at third to end the game.
Junior Guerra (W 11-1) dominated with 13 strikeouts in a complete game win, allowing just one unearned run on five hits and five walks. Delio Miguel Martinez (L 9-1) suffered his first loss of the season, giving up nine hits, five runs (4 ER) and four bb in 7 2/3 innings.

With the outcome of the championship in the Division de Honor decided on Saturday, the Sunday morning game became meaningless. However both teams didn’t take it too easy and battled each other in a thrilling back-and-forth eleven-inning nail biter. Sant Boi once again prevailed thanks to four runs in the top of the second extra inning. The 10-6 victory was their fourth in the fourth game against the FC Barcelona this year.
After Victor Perez scored the game-winner on a wild pitch in the eleventh, Junior Guerra, who played the second half of the contest at first base, came through with a bases clearing double to cap the four-run rally. Rafael Rivas and Jose Manuel Salazar scored two runs apiece for CB. Sergio Roman drove in two for Barcelona, while Miguel Mora crossed the plate twice. Jose Estebin Cruz (W 9-2) received the win after five solid innings of relief. Oscar Gimenez (L 8-2), who already pitched on Saturday, gave up one hit, four runs (2 ER) and seven bb in 3 2/3 relief innings to take the loss.
