Buchbinder Legionaere 010 000 020 3 5 1 Solingen Alligators 001 000 000 1 8 3
One day after blowing a two-run advantage in the ninth inning, the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg held on to a 3-1 victory against the Solingen Alligators and tied the best-of-five final series 2-2 in the German Baseball-Bundesliga on Sunday. Justin Kuehn won a tight pitcher’s duel over Nick Renault, which got decided by two runs in the eighth.
Regensburg took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, when Michael Weigl scored on a bunt single by Enzo Muschik. The Alligators answered one frame later through Tanner Leighton’s RBI single. The score remained the same until the eighth even though both teams had their chances.
Two walks by Ludwig Glaser and Muschik as well as a bunt single by Evan LeBlanc loaded the bases for the Buchbinder Legionaere with two outs in the top of frame. Maik Ehmcke stepped to the plate and hit a 3-2 pitch hard to second baseman Tanner Leighton, who couldn’t handle the groundball, allowing it Glaser and Muschik to score for a 3-1 lead.
Solingen tried to pull off another ninth-inning comeback, but Justin Kuehn pitched around a pair of two-out singles by Dustin Hughes and Dominik Wulf to close it out. The right-hander picked up the win with another strong start. He gave up just one run on eight hits in nine innings, while striking out 11. 93 of his 128 pitches were strikes. Nick Renault meanwhile ended up with the loss. He got charged with five hits, three runs (1 ER) and five base on balls in nine innings.
Game five will be played on Thursday, October 3 at the Armin-Wolf-Arena in Regensburg. Legionaere TV will be on hand to broadcast the game live at www.legionaere.de/tv.
