Organizers of the Honkbalweek Haarlem 2020 have announced on Tuesday that this year’s edition will be cancelled. The next Honkbalweek will be held in 2022. The Dutch government had announced measures to stop the spread of the corona virus in the Netherlands, which cancelled all events until June 1. Even though the Honkbalweek would have started at the end of June, organizers understood their responsibility and stopped the organization of the event right away.
Official press release:
Haarlem, 24th march 2020
Dear people,
The measures regarding the risk of infection of the coronavirus are far-reaching and have major consequences. Tonight, during a press conference, Prime Minister Rutte informed the Dutch population that the regulations need to be tightened up even more. All events will be canceled until 1 June.
The board of the HWH is aware of its responsibility and has therefore decided that the Honkbalweek Week Haarlem will not take place in 2020. All preparations are immediately stopped.
We understand that – just like us – this is a disappointment to anyone who cares about baseball. At the same time, we also realize that there are more important issues at the moment. Health and safety have the highest priority.
In 2022 the next Honkbalweek Haarlem will be held. The thirtieth edition of this beautiful Haarlem sporting event. We go all out again. With a beautiful line up, full stands and an enthusiastic audience. For, by and with you!
We wish you a lot of strength, health and strength in these difficult times.
Please pay close attention to each other,
with sporty greetings,
the board of the HWH,
Guus van Dee – Françoise Jansen – Dick Dortmundt – Paul Louman – Marleen Zwartkruis – Gerrit Ligtenberg – Léon Ravestein
