Two pitchers with connections to European Baseball received minor league contracts with MLB organizations last week. Based on Baseball America’s latest transaction update Jair Jurrjens has re-signed with the Colorado Rockies. The right-hander made two appearances with the MLB club in 2014, allowing 11 runs on 20 hits and three walks in 9 1/3 innings. At the Minor League level he split time between the Reds and Rockies Triple-A affiliates with an ERA of 4.54 in 14 starts.
Meanwhile Junior Guerra used the 2014 season with T&A San Marino to score a contract with the Chicago White Sox organization. In the past he also played for the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets organizations. Since 2009 he has been bouncing around independent leagues and European Baseball. With San Marino he went 8-1 with an ERA of 1.29 during the regular season. He won the European Champions Cup.
