Daniel Lamb-Hunt of the Bonn Capitals and Shawn Larry of the 2021 German Bundesliga champion Heidenhem Heideköpfe have been named Bundesliga MVPs, with Lamb-Hunt taking the title in the North and Larry in the South.
Larry’s MVP award came as no surprise after a Triple Crown season in which he set multiple offensive records and adds to his 2021 accolades, which include the Bundesliga South’s Best Batter award. In the regular season, the 30-year-old German bashed 21 home runs, setting a new record, and batted .562, driving in 60 runs for a Heidenheim team that claimed its fifth German championship in seven years and the third title in a row.
The MVP decision in the North was complicated by the fact that pandemic restrictions limited the northern clubs to a regular season of just 14 games. But with the 34-year-old Lamb-Hunt’s name appearing across the leader boards in the key offensive categories — seven home runs, 23 RBI and a .422/.563/.956 slash line –, the New Zealander came away with the honor.
