While most parts of European Baseball are already limited to indoor activities several members of the Spanish National Team are currently holding a training camp in Tenerife with manager Mauro Mazzotti and coaches Miguel Erroz and Nestor Perez. The work outs in picture perfect weather conditions will continue through Sunday morning. The players are mostly from the Division de Honor with the exception of infielder Gonzalo Briones and outfielder Herman Armas.
Especially Armas (picture) could leave his mark in Europe next season. The 23-year-old from San Christobal, Venezuela most recently got his Spanish passport and is already drawing interest from various European teams. He played three seasons professionally in the Houston Astros organization from 2005 to 2007, batting .270 (OBP .380/SLG .419) with 15 homeruns, 118 runs, 96 RBI and 28 stolen bases in 190 games in the Venezuelan Summer League.
